Steve Smith could be Replaced for IPL 2019 by Rajasthan Royals

As the squads for all the IPL franchise is finalized after the IPL Auction on December 18. The IPL team Rajasthan Royals got one of its main player Steve Smith injured while playing in the Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament.

After playing for only two matches in the Bangladesh Premier League, he was dropped out due to an elbow injury. He will undergo surgery to repair a ligament in his right elbow. After the surgery, he has to spend six weeks in a brace. He then will undergo extensive rehabilitation.

So, Steve Smith is unlikely to come in play for the IPL. Rajasthan Royals seeks permission to replace Steve Smith for the upcoming season Indian Premier League. The former Australia National Cricket Team captain Steve Smith missed the previous IPL season due to ban.

He was banned by Cricket Australia for his involvement in the ball-tampering incident in the third test against South Africa. He was banned from all international cricket and domestic cricket in Australia for one year.

Now he has suffered an elbow injury ahead of the upcoming IPL season. It is said that once the Smith’s brace is removed then it will be clear when he will be back to play. Moreover, his injury is a cause of concern for Smith as his one-year long ban is going to end on March 28.

After his ban comes to an end, there are chances that he will be selected to play World Cup for his team and Ashes series too against the England National Cricket Team that will begin in August 2019.

It will be interesting to watch who will serve as Steve Smith replacement in IPL. Last year when Smith was banned, the Rajasthan Royals replaced him with Heinrich Klaasen.
